Description
  • As mezcal continues to grow in popularity, we've started to see many different brands and producers from outside of Oaxaca. For the month of May we are featuring a Cupreata from the state of Guerrero. Sanzekan is a collective brand that has been functioning since 1990 in the indigenous communities of central Guerrero, with a focus on assisting agricultural producers, the production and commercialization of local art, and the reforestation of natural resources.

This particular bottle of Sanzekan Cupreata is distilled in the small community of Ahuacuotzintla by Maestro Mezcalero, Romelio Barranca Zaragoza. Cooked in the traditional earthen pit, the cupreata is then milled with a small mechanical shredder. The fermentation takes place in Ayacahuite tanks, which is a type of white pine. It then goes through two distillations on a copper pot still.

A wonderfully fruity mezcal with notes of watermelon and honeydew. Cucumber, sage, dried grass and fresh tobacco help round out the finish. 46.5% ABV. 200 liters produced.
